The massacre took place in the early hours of Friday precisely at about 1 to 2am when most residents were still asleep in their houses due to the curfew imposed by state government.
It was gathered that the most hit areas were Mary wards, few meters away from the University of Maiduguri, one of the places accommodating students of the institution living off-Campus due to accommodation shortage.
Also affected were ladies living close to the black spots areas of Gwange, London Chiki, Abbagaram, Kaleri areas where series of killings and bomb blasts had occurred in the past, killing JTF officers.
When contacted on phone, both the JTF spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa and the Police Commissioner, Mr. Yuguda Abdullahi said that they are not in Maiduguri, the state capital to confirm the incident.
But a top JTF Commander said, he had directed his men to the affected areas yesterday morning to evacuate the remains of over twenty girls slaughtered within the Maiduguri metropolis.
Meanwhile, the Joint Task Force has declared 19 senior members of the terrorist Boko Haram group blamed for thousands of deaths in northern Nigeria wanted.
The army also placed a N50 million bounty on the suspected leader of the group, Abubakar Shekau and N10 million for various commanders of the sect.

Ex-banker on hunger strike

Olubiyi Odunaro, the 53-year-old former employee of Hallmark Bank Plc, who embarked on a hunger strike on November 12 to protest against non-payment of his terminal benefit says he is not afraid of death.
OdunaroHallmark Bank was one of the banks which did not meet with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recapitalisation requirement in 2005 resulting in its being folded up.
Odunaro told our correspondent on Sunday at a garden located on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Lagos, where he had turned to his new home, that his hunger strike remained indefinite as neither the Federal Government nor any of its agencies had taken any serious step to pay him and his over 14,000 colleagues their terminal benefits.
He said his personal doctor who ran another round of medical tests on him late last week had been lamenting that his sugar level had significantly dropped.
He said, “I might be physically weak but I’m psychologically strong and I remain focused and undaunted. I would never be tired and I am not even afraid of death.
“A man does not die until he dies. It’s my belief that a man only dies when he keeps silent in the face of tyranny. My intention is not to commit suicide but If I die for a just cause, I will feel honoured in my grave.
“I won’t start something I won’t finish and as it is, I won’t back down on this hunger strike until we are paid our entitlements.”
Odunaro's hunger strike clocked two weeks today had started looking frail while his voice had started going weaker as against the time of the first interview with him.

Military authorities have confirmed 11 people dead and 60 injured in two suicide bomb attacks on St. Andrews Military Protestant Church inside the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State.
In what has sent shock waves across Nigeria, the suicide bombers successfully infiltrated the heavily guarded cantonment, which is a major training institution for the armed forces, and detonated their Improvised Explosive Devices.
The first bomber reportedly infiltrated the church as service was ending and detonated his IED, killing himself and five others.
Just as people rushed to the scene of the blast, a second suicide bomber drove his car to the entrance of the church and detonated another set of IEDs, killing five more people.
Army spokesman, Bolaji Koleosho, confirmed the incident.
Spokesman for the National Emergency Agency, Yushau Shuaib, confirmed there had been an explosion inside the barracks.
The injured were rushed to the 44 Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna and Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria.

“Twin suicide bomb blasts just happened in our church (St Andrew Military Protestant Church). Mailing from the scene. The casualty figure is really high.
“Church just closed when it happened. So sad, the first bomber detonated his explosive inside the church and after the initial confusion was just settling and folks had started gathering to think of helping out, the second bomber exploded his car right in the midst of intending first aiders and the survivors of the first that were rushing out.”
Although no group has claimed responsibility for the blast, it comes two days after the Joint Task Force on Operation Restore Order in Borno State declared the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Ibrahim Shekau, and 19 other top guns of the group wanted
Last February, there was a blast at the gate of the One Mechanised Division in Kaduna, which killed the suicide bomber and some others.

CBN Grants South African FirstRand, First Discount Merchant Banking Licence

Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has granted merchant banking license to South African FirstRand and First Discount House Limited, saying the nation’s external reserves has risen further to $46 billion.
Director of Corporate Affairs of CBN, Mr. Ugo Okoroafor, revealed this over the weekend, at the annual conference of Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria, FICAN, in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
He explained that the licencing is in line with CBN’s new banking model, saying, “the banks have met the minimum capital base for merchant banking which is N15 billion. He said FirstRand is partnering with a local firm and would commence operation early next year with a capital base of N16 billion while FSDH will cease operations as a discount house, and now function as merchant bank.”
He also indicated that several other institutions have applied for merchant bank licence and the apex bank would like to see more regional banks and community banks that will take care of the interest of small and medium businesses.
He said: “Foreign investors have a renewed confidence in Nigeria hence the investment by FirstRand. We need the growth in Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, rather than foreign portfolio investment. We need people to come and invest physically so that this country can grow and create employment.
“We need to continuously grow our excess crude account reserves since Nigeria is depending on oil as the only major source of revenue and the oil will soon dry. So we need to save for the rainy days.”
Okoroafor, expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the monetary authority and fiscal authority in the country, saying, “The era of fiscal dominance is coming to an end. There is now collaboration between fiscal authority and monetary authority.”
FirstRand Bank is a subsidiary of the First Rand Group, which is a financial services provider in South Africa. The group has its headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Newspaper vendor murdered for turning down free reader

A newspaper vendor in Calabar, Cross River State, Mr. Innocent Monday-Francis, was on Thursday murdered after an argument that followed his refusal to allow one of his neighbours, identified as Eno, to read the papers.
Monday-FrancisMonday-Francis (22), who sold newspapers around the popular Flour Mill junction, along the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar, had retired to a neighbourhood bar at Ikot-Effanga area of Calabar to take a bottle of drink when the incident occurred.
Narrating the incident to PUNCH Metro on Sunday in Calabar, the deceased’s younger brother, Mr. Gabriel Monday-Francis, said his brother went to work as usual on Thursday morning and on his way back home in the evening he stopped at a nearby drinking spot for a bottle of drink.
He said those at the drinking spot had alleged that the assailant, who is now on the run, had picked up one of the deceased’s newspapers to read but the vendor told him not to read any of the papers.
He (Monday-Francis) accused the assailant of not only reading the papers for free on all occasions, but that on one or two instances, he had taken copies away without his knowledge.
The deceased’s brother said after that disagreement, Eno got angry and slapped his brother and in retaliation he (Monday-Francis) emptied the content of his glass on the assailant but after people’s intervention, the vendor immediately went home.
He said his late brother, who was already relaxed at home and eating outside, met his death when the assailant came from behind to hit him on his neck twice with shovel and he immediately slumped and died.
“It was while he was already at home eating outside that Eno came to hit him with shovel twice his neck and head and he slumped and died immediately,” the brother said.

There will be no food crisis – Agric minister

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has assured Nigerians that the country will not suffer any food crisis as a result of the flood disaster in some parts of the country.
Adesina in a statement on Sunday, noted that though the flood presented a huge challenge on food security in many parts of Nigeria, the country would not experience food shortage.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi AdesinaHe said, “Let me assure you that the Federal Government is taking all measures to mitigate the impacts of the flood. Nigeria will not have famine. We will not have a food crisis. We will recover from the flood.
“From our efforts this year alone, from maize, rice, cassava, sorghum, we are adding a total of 8.1 million metric tonnes of food to our domestic food supply. That is 70 per cent higher than the target of five million metric tonnes we set for 2013; and 41 per cent of the total target that we set for 2015.
“If we had not added the 8.1 million metric tonnes of food to the domestic food supply, which provided a significant buffer, Nigeria would have seriously felt the impact of the flood. We will continue to work hard.”
He urged Nigerians not to panic, stating that the International Water Management had been invited to help use sophisticated remote sensing and satellite imagery to determine the extent of the flood for effective control.

Can two women who at a time shared one man and have children by him, ever be real friends?  I'm talking about being friends, remembering birthdays, hollering at each other on Twitter etc. You read their tweets, and you're like, WTH???

Is this a sign of maturity between two women who have buried the hatchet or just oju aye, as in eye service? If the former is the case, then this behaviour should really be encouraged, if not, then...
