Former Delta State House Of Assembly Speaker Slump and Dies In Hospital Toilet




Former Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Daniel Igbrude, allegedly slumped and died in a hospital yesterday afternoon. Igbrude, who became the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly June 3, 2003, was reported to have taken his child to St Luke’s Hospital in Asaba and while the treatment of the child was going on, he demanded to use the toilet and reportedly slumped and died there.
A close source who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the death, saying: “This is a great blow. We are all devastated by this (death). He was hale and hearty when he went to the hospital.” He was said to have died at about 2pm. Igbrude, who was a staunch member of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had decamped to DPP due to party differences, but in March last year staged a come back to PDP, with some of his followers.

Suspected ritualists behead 16-yr-old girl in Anambra

 A 16 year-old Miss Nwanneka Odah was, yesterday, beheaded by a three -man gang suspected to be ritual killers at Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. Nwanneka was said to be hawking groundnuts along the Nawfia –Awka road close to Nawfia Comprehensive Secondary  School when the three young men allegedly pretended as if they wanted to buy groundnuts from her only for one of them to use a machete to cut off her head when she bent down to sell the groundnuts to them.
A relation of the deceased, Mr. Friday Ogalagu described the situation as terrible, lamenting that he had never seen such a thing in his life.
He said: “I was not there when it happened, but I was told that my cousin was stopped by three men who said they wanted to buy groundnuts. While two of them were on the road side, the third, who dressed like a mad man was standing closely.
When the girl bent down to put the ground nuts for them, the one close by brought out what somebody said looked like an axe and beheaded the girl. An Okada rider plying the road who saw what happened stopped and the three men ran into the bush, leaving their victim whose head was already severed, struggling for life.”
Ogalagu said that it was when people began to make inquiries about the parents of the girl that he was contacted.
According to Ogalagu who claimed to be training the girl since childhood, the body had been deposited at the Amaku General Hospital in Awka, while the parents who live in Ebonyi had been contacted.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Raphael Uzoigwe, confirmed the incident, saying the matter had been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, for investigation.

Police arrest ‘700-year-old spirit’ for fraud


Police in Kano State have arrested one Nura Hamza, who claimed to be a 700-year-old spirit.
Hamza was arrested after he allegedly duped a man of N800,000.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, told reporters on Wednesday in Kano that the suspect, who resides at Kurnar Asabe quarters, was arrested on August 23, following complaint from one of his victims.
According to him, the suspect used his mobile phone to call the complainant several times claiming to be a spirit aged 700 years.
He said, “He (the suspect) directed the complainant to source money and take it to a nearby bush for spiritual duties.
“When his compound was searched, the following exhibits recovered. Seven pieces of fake $100, three bundles of cut-to-size papers with pretext to be $100, four MTN SIM certificates, three motorcycles, generator and one mobile phone.”
Idris said after the complainant had deposited N800,000 as directed by the suspect, he decided to inform his relatives.
The CP said, “This culminated in the arrest of the suspect after luring him to the destination.”
The commissioner also said the command had arrested 150 suspected criminals and smashed five robbery gangs within the last two weeks.
 

Vanguard Entertainment Editor Dies

Ogbonna Amadi was the Group Entertainment editor of Vanguard Newspaper. He had been a veteran entertainment journalist for over two decades. He died yesterday evening, August 29th, at a hospital in Apapa after suffering serious Asthma Attack.
