MD in court for N31m fraud

The Managing Director SOSACO Nigeria Limited, Mr. Akinbola Akeem, has been arraigned at Oshodi Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N31m goods belonging to the company.

Also arraigned was his assistant, Mr. Shobowale Yusuf, who was said to have conspired with Akeem and some men at large to perpetrate the crime.

The offence was committed between May 1 and August 2, and was reported to the police by the company’s new supervisor.

Prosecutor Olatunde Kehinde said the offence was punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.

Specifically, Akeem and Yusuf were accused to have stolen 507 cartons of Gino TP 800gms, 300 cartons of Gino TP (400gms), 512 cartons of Gino TP (2.2kg), 1,500 cartons of Pomo TP (700gms), 300 cartons of Bama Mayonnaise (160z).

They were also alleged to have stolen 508 cartons of Pomo (TP 400gms), 2000 cartons of Gino sachet, 500 cartons of Bama Mayonnaise (160z), 500 cartons of Bama Mayonnaise (80z), and 3150 cartons of Gino sachet all valued at N31m.

The prosecutor said the offence was punishable under Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge against them.

Magistrate Olagbegi Adelabu admitted them to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each.

The case was adjourned till October 25 for further hearing.

"Kris is the first person I ever had to break-up with and that f-cked with my emotions," Kim is supposedly telling friends, according to TMZ, going into detail about the pair's experience filming Keeping Up with the Kardashians together:

"He told our producers he would destroy my career and me if the show wasn't edited right."

But that strategy will "backfire" on Humphries, Kardashian says, if he keeps claiming she was to blame for their marriage falling apart. She cites unaired footage from the E! series that is still out there and which depicts Kris as a "manipulative, vindictive, petty, fame-hungry jerk."

ESUT VC’s abductors demand N200m ransom

There were indications on Thursday that the kidnappers of the Vice Chancellor of Enugu State University of Technology, Prof. Cyprian Onyeji, had demanded a ransom of N200m to free the don.

Although the police did not confirm the ransom demand, they confirmed that the vehicle in which Onyeji was taken away, was recovered intact.

Punch Sources said the kidnappers made telephone contacts with Onyeji’s family and made the ransom demand Thursday but the person who received the call could not be ascertained. However, the police have confirmed that Onyeji, who was kidnapped by gunmen on Wednesday, was alive.

The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, made this known to our correspondent on Thursday, but said he wouldn’t divulge the measures put in place by the police to secure the release of Onyeji.

He said, “If I divulge the machinery we have put in place, these kidnappers may capitalise on it, after reading the newspapers, to make things difficult for us.

“All I can tell you is that the ESUT Vice Chancellor is alive and we are on the case. The machinery has been put in place with a view to registering success.” Amaraizu said the three police officers, who were wounded during the kidnap of Onyeji, were responding to treatment at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital.

The PPRO had earlier said an armed robbery suspect, who wanted to pull out a gun to shoot police officers on patrol in Enugu State but blew off his private part instead, was equally responding to treatment.

He said, “The suspect is with us in the Police Headquarters because if we leave him in the hospital, he might escape. While he is here, investigation into the matter is ongoing.”

Amaraizu said the injured robbery suspect was arrested alongside another suspect on Wednesday night at about 8pm, during a routine patrol of the New Haven Police Division of the Enugu State Police Command.

He said, “The hoodlums were overpowered by the security operatives that promptly acted on a tip off. Meanwhile, during the encounter, the suspect, in a bid to pull out a locally made pistol that he hid on his waist closer to his private part, mistakenly fired himself on his private part.”

Kogi gov’s aide arrested over Okene killings – Police

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, Mr. Muhammed Katsina, on Thursday confirmed the arrest of a Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Karaku, in connection with the recent violence in Okene area of the state.

Karaku is a former Chairman of Okene Local Government Area. The CP, during a media briefing in Lokoja, also said the command arrested a former Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, Abubakar Adagu, in connection with the crisis.

Our correspondent learnt that the two former chairmen had been taken to Abuja for further interrogation.

Katsina stated that the command had identified the perpetrators of the shootings of the worshipers at the Deeper Life Church, Otite in Okene LGA , where 20 persons were killed.

Many other worshippers were also injured and are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

The CP reassured the residents and relevant authorities of the determination of the police to get to the root of the matter. He warned that anyone indicted in the ongoing investigation would be made to face the law no matter how highly placed.

He stated that only the security agents were empowered by the law to carry arms, warning that unauthorised persons found with arms and ammunition would be punished in accordance with the laws.

Katsina said a suspected armed robbery kingpin, Abdulrazaq Adama, aka Risky, who had been terrorising some parts of the state was arrested in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He stated that 12 more suspects had been arrested for various crimes in the state, adding that they were already assisting the police in investigations.

It will be recalled that Katsina had, on Sunday, said 16 suspects had been arrested for the Okene shootings.

Bomb Scare In Kaduna

A bomb scare at Nagwamatse House, one of the tallest buildings in kaduna State, has left hundreds of staff of different organisations stranded and panicking, following the decision of security agents to evacuate the 10-storeyed building.
According to a source at the scene, officers of the Nigeria Police and the Civil Defence Corps were alerted to the building, after a stranger who hurriedly parked a car in the compound was seen running away.
Nagwamatse House is a top business building in the northern city of kaduna, playing host to such organisations as Brilla FM, which is on the 9th floor, and Africa Independent Television.

Jonathan orders reorganisation of sport over Olympics failure

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday ordered the total reorganisation of the nation’s sport sector as a result of the abysmal performance of Team Nigeria in the just-concluded London Olympics 2012.

Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, made this known while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.

In spite of about N2.3bn released for the London Games, Nigeria could not register her name on the medals’ table, making the games the worst one for the country about 20 years.

.He said, “President Goodluck Jonathan today ordered for total and comprehensive re-organisation of the sporting sector, following the disappointing performances of Nigerian contingent to the London 2012 Olympics.

“The President accordingly directed for a national retreat which will involve state governments as well as the private sector to re-order priorities in the Nigerian sporting sector.

“He said what took place in London must be the beginning of a new momentum to place Nigerian sports at a level that will enable this country to return to the glory it is known for in the areas of sports.

“He also called for a new direction in sports management as well as funding and planning. He believes that what this nation needs at the moment is to take a sober look at what has happened and indeed change the scenario by working hard on all that we need to do to return the sporting sector to its past glory.”

I posted a story on Zaaki Azzay and wife Hadiza yesterday, stating how Hadiza moved out of her matrimonial home after 8years and 3kids and also accusation of constant beating by Zaaki, if you miss it please read it HERE. Shortly after that news hit the internet, Zaaki Azzay released a press statement stating his own side of the story.

'For now, I do not want to run fowl of whatever the court ethics are. From my understanding of issues, once a matter is in court, every party strives as much as possible to refrain from making comments on such matters or anything relating to it. 
'I am surprised that Project Alert or whatever they call themselves and the person who ran away from her matrimonial home months back, and who after a few months, came with thugs, hefty looking men in a black unregistered car, beat up my cousin and injured her on her way back from picking the kids from school and forcefully adopted my children, and then went to court after doing that, can now run to the press and post so many statements to tarnish my image on the internet.
'I am not ready to afford them the opportunity for cheap publicity which I am sure is what they are looking for. A good lawyer should fight his case in court and not on pages of newspapers. I am happy with some of the responses they are getting on the net.

Zaaki Azzay's 8 year marriage ends

After 8 years and three children together, Zaaki Azzay's marriage to Hadiza Azzay has ended. The marriage actually ended four months ago but we are all getting to know about it now because the ex-couple are involved in a bitter custody battle. The police are even now involved.
29 year old Hadiza told LindaIkeji she packed out of her husband's house on April 17th after being badly battered the day before by Zaaki. She was able to leave with two of her children, but the third one, her eldest child, is still living at home.
She said he had been battering her for years, sometimes he would beat her so much she would faint, but her family kept telling her to go back to him for the sake of their children. She said she left him twice last year but returned to him after much pressure from family and friends. But when the battery continued, she made up her mind to end her marriage for good because she didn't want to be another dead wife.
Hadiza was a housewife, so since leaving her husband she has been under the care of an NGO that takes care of battered women. They've given her and her children shelter and are taking up her case.
She will issue an official press statement telling her side of the story in the coming days...right now she's dealing with the police who arrested her for allegedly 'kidnapping' her own children. She says Zaaki has been using the police to harass her.

One Officer Shot dead,another injured in Police-Robber Shoot-out

One policeman and an armed robbery suspect were killed during a shoot-out in the Apapa area of Lagos on Tuesday.The robbery suspects, who were four in number, were operating near Union Bank located on Wharf Road when policemen attached to Apapa Division confronted them.

The policemen engaged the robbers in a gun duel but a policeman, Taye Ajetunmobi, was killed in the process while another one sustained injury.

A reliable source at the police station said two of the suspects were arrested while another was killed.

The incident reportedly caused pandemonium as motorists and pedestrians scampered to safety.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said the robbers had been terrorising residents for quite sometime.

She however said only one suspect was arrested, one killed, while two others escaped with gunshot wounds.

She said, “The four armed robbers have been terrorising residents for sometime. On Tuesday, policemen received information that they were about to operate. So, they laid ambush.

“The robbers came on two motorcycles and when they saw policemen, they immediately opened fire. One armed robber was killed while a policeman was also killed. One of the armed robbers was arrested and arms were recovered from him.”

SSS arrests fake lawyer in Bauchi

A 25-year-old man, Mr. Ibrahim Aminu, has been arrested by the men of the State Security Service, Bauchi State Command.

Aminu, who has been parading himself as a lawyer and an employee of the National Intelligence Agency, was arrested following a tip-off.

The accused was alleged to have defrauded two men of the sum of N193, 000 after presenting himself as a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Gombe branch.

The Assistant Director of the SSS, in Bauchi, Mr. Olu Justin, told journalists on Tuesday, that 83 passports belonging to different individuals, a forged stamp of Providence Chamber, Dutse, Jigawa State, and University of Maiduguri identity card were found on him.

Robbery suspect stones friend’s father to death

An armed robbery suspect, Jimoh Yekini, on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo State, said he “mistakenly” stoned his friend’s father to death.

Yekini, 36, also known as Ejo (snake), told journalists while being paraded with other armed robbery suspects at the state police command that his usual weapon of attack was a stone.

The victim, Kamoru Lamidi, was said to have died after a stone Yekini threw at his son, Sumaila, hit him. 

According to Yekini “They call me Ejo (snake) because I am a stubborn being. I was only fighting with Sumaila and stoned him. The stone mistakenly hit his father on the head.

“I threw a second stone, which also it also hit him in the head, but I did not know it was not Sumaila.”

LASTMA Vs Female banker: Murder Charges dropped

LASTMA on Friday accused Yinka Johnson of crushing one of its officials, Hameed Balogun, while she was driving against traffic, an allegation she denied. (If you miss it read  it HERE). Detectives attached to the Homicide Section of the State CID had visited the crime scene on Monday for an on-the-spot assessment where eyewitnesses insisted that she did not crush the LASTMA official.(If you miss it, read it HERE)

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said investigations exonerated Johnson from murder. She said, “When she (Johnson) was brought to the police, she was accused of killing the LASTMA official but when we began investigation, we heard from eyewitnesses and also visited the crime scene. “Investigations revealed that she did not kill the LASTMA official; rather, he was killed by a hit-and- run commercial bus.”

The police on Tuesday arraigned her before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for alleged reckless driving. Lead prosecutor, Chukwu Agwu, told the court that Johnson, an employee of Stanbic IBTC, drove her Range Rover Jeep with Lagos number plate CY 276 LSD against traffic at Mega City, Ikota, along Lekki-Epe Expressway. 

She was charged with one count of reckless driving, which according to the charge sheet, is punishable under Section 29(1) of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law 2003.

The charge sheet stated, “That you Yinka Johnson at about 8:30am on August 10 did drive your Land Rover Jeep on the highway recklessly and against traffic without reasonable consideration for other road users.”

When her plea was taken, she pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her.

Johnson’s lawyer, Emeka Okpoko, put up an oral bail application for her, urging the court to grant it on liberal terms.

“The defendant is a nursing mother who is still breast feeding a baby. We assure the court that she will not jump bail if granted,” he said.

Magistrate J. A. Adegun admitted her to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned till September 5 for further hearing.

‘Boko Haram not defending Islam’

Chief Imam of Benin, Edo State, Mallam Abdul-Fatai Enabulele, has said the Boko Haram sect negates all that Islam stands for. He spoke on Monday at a stakeholders meeting organised by the Edo State Police Command in Benin.
Enabulele described the problem in northern Nigeria as “a long term manipulation and double standard.”
It will be recalled that a suspected gunman, who reportedly took part in last week’s shooting at a Deeper Life Church in Okene, Kogi State, were traced to Ibillo, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area in Edo, where they had gone to seek treatment for bullet wounds sustained during a shootout with the police.
Enabulele said Muslims in the state would pay courtesy visit on the leadership of the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, after the Ramadan period.
He said, “The problem in northern Nigeria is that of long term manipulations and double standard.
“Boko Haram has never fought for Islam. Beginning from the days of the prophet in Medina and Mecca, he preached Islam with diplomacy. There is nothing like western knowledge, so knowledge is knowledge, which is why Islam told us that knowledge is continuous.
“Let me assure everybody that in Edo State, we‘ll never collaborate, support or tolerate Boko Haram or kill.”

More eyewitnesses on Monday insisted that the female banker, Yinka Johnson, accused of crushing an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, was not culpable. Detectives attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation visited the crime scene on Monday for an on-the-spot assessment. But as soon as the team arrived, scores of eyewitnesses told the detectives, led by Mr. Solomon Ogochukwu, that the LASTMA official was crushed by a commercial bus driver while he was attempting to cross the road.
One of the witnesses, Simon Eze, said, “The banker was driving against traffic and was attempting to navigate to the other side of the road when she was accosted by LASTMA officials.
“The lady pleaded with them but they were adamant. Even one man in a red car alighted from his vehicle to plead with them but the officials refused and went to get a towing vehicle.
“As one of the officials attempted to cross the road, he was crushed by a commercial bus but he did not die on the spot. The LASTMA officials suddenly blamed the banker and accused her of killing their colleague.”
The witness said the commercial bus driver whose vehicle was damaged, stopped for a while but later sped off.

Man surrenders to police 8 months after burying prophetess alive

This happened in Delta State. A 27 year old man went to the police last week to confess a crime he committed eight months ago, because according to him, the spirit of the woman he killed was haunting him.
According to the story he told police, he and some men kidnapped a prophetess in December 2011 and buried her alive a few days later in his compound. He didn't say why he kidnapped the woman.
When the police arrived at the grave Emmanuel from Owahawa, Ughelli South LGA took them to, they exhumed the body of a woman fully dressed in a white garment church attire, jewelry and all.
Emmanuel and another man have been arrested while the police is looking for relatives of the yet to be identified prophetess.

Actress Hilary Duff announced on Twitter today that she has closed a deal to star and produce in an upcoming television series.
"Ok it's official! Very excited about my development deal with 20th century fox!! t.v. here I come! :)," she tweeted.
According to Deadline, Duff has signed a talent and development deal which requires the studio to develop a half-hour comedy vehicle for her, but if for whatever reason the project falls through, the studio can cast her in another comedy or drama series.
But TV isn't the only thing on this new mom's to-do list. In June, Duff told E! that she was jumping back in the music studio. "I'm getting kind of nervous," she dished.
