Pope Benedict XVI made a shocking announcement during a meeting of Vatican cardinals today:

He will become the first pontiff in 600 years to resign his post later this month, citing health concerns as the basis for a decision that will officially take place on February 28.
According to The Associated Press, the 85-year old believes that his advanced age and diminishing strength make it difficult to fulfill the job.
"Strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me," the pope told the cardinals, according to the Vatican.
The last pope to resign was Gregory XII in 1415. He took that step to end a civil war within the church in which multiple men claimed to be hold the position.
Benedict's reign as pope has been marred by a slew of scandals and controversies, including numerous allegations of sexual abuse by priests. He also joined Twitter in December.

Taraba State Governor Is Blind And Cant Talk

Contrary to a recent media speculation that the ailing Taraba State Governor, Alhaji Danbaba Suntai had fully recovered and had been discharged from the hospital in Germany, the state Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar has denied the report, saying that Suntai's state of health has deteriorated.
According to him, the governor, who has been in a German hospital since November receiving treatment due to injuries he sustained when a small aircraft, Cessna 208 he was piloting crash-landed about 30 miles to the Yola airport in Adamawa State, can neither talk nor see.

A Russian graduate student named Lesya Toumaniantz has allowed her boyfriend - a controversial artist named Rouslan Toumaniantz - to tattoo his name across her face.

Making this even more of an unusual move? The pair had known each other for 24 hours when the ink went down!
"It's a symbol of our eternal devotion. I'd like him to tattoo every inch of my body," Toumaniantz said on Facebook, adding that she plans to marry her very new beau.
The tattoo is of the name "Ruslan," written across both her cheeks in Gothic letters, five inches tall.
Somewhere, even Mike Tyson and the Mitt Romney face tattoo guy are shaking their heads over this decision.

9-Year Old Girl Gives Birth in Mexico

A 9-year old girl, identified simply as "Dafne," reportedly gave birth via cesarean section on January 27 at Zoquipan Hospital in Jalisco, a town in western Mexico.
The girl became pregnant at 8 and her newborn daughter weighed in at 5.7 pounds, according to The London Telegraph.

The father of the child is allegedly 17 years old and is on the run, with Jorge Villasenor of the state prosecutors' office saying:
"We are looking for the young man to get his story because she does not understand what has happened. This is a rape or child sex abuse case."
Dafne, one of 11 kids herself, did not know she was pregnant until she was seven months along.
She resides in Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, a poverty-stricken neighborhood 25 miles south of Guadalajara.
“Her parents work all day and were not watching after her and therefore didn’t realize what was about to happen," Lino Ginzalez Corona, spokesperson at Jalisco State prosecutor’s office, told ABC News.

Woman Delivers Her Baby Inside Tricycle Popularly Called Keke Marwa

A woman, Mrs. Mutiat Aileru has delivered a baby girl in a tricycle in Abule-Egba area of Lagos.

The woman delivered the baby at about 5p.m. The reporter was walking by the roadside near Awori bus stop when a woman suddenly ran out of the commercial tricycle, Keke Marwa and raised the alarm that her relative was delivering a baby inside the tricycle they had boarded.

She had called for urgent help from the owners of the shops by the road and women promptly removed the wrappers on them to shield the woman in labour. The women rushed to pick her up, some cleaning her, others cuddling and others yet bringing accessories to assist in the delivery.

Prophet Ariyo Ajibola of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Erimo in Ijaiye-Ojokoro, who drove the tricycle, said: “It was at Ikeja computer village that the two women that followed the mother approached me to beg me to assist them to carry a pregnant woman to a hospital in Abule Egba.

Connecticut Couple Honored as 'Longest Married' in U.S.

A Connecticut couple who tied the knot over 80 years ago will be named the longest married couple in the U.S.

John and Ann Betar of Fairfield, Conn., said "I do" on Nov. 25, 1932, and have been happily married for 80 years. Together they have five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The couple was selected for the 2013 award by Worldwide Marriage Encounter, a Christian marriage enrichment group based in San Bernardino, Calif., that organizes a search each year to promote the virtues of lasting marriages and inspire young couples.
"What an inspiration Mr. and Mrs. Betar are to all of us. They made a commitment to each other 80-plus years ago and they have kept that commitment over these many years. They truly are a sign of hope to us all," Worldwide Marriage Encounter's Ron and Judy Pekny said in a statement.
An award ceremony will take place on Saturday at the Fairfield, Conn., home of one of the Betars' granddaughters, Heather Mitchell.

Nigerians continue to celebrate the victory of the Super Eagles over the Ivorian national team otherwise, known as the Elephant, Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (ANP) has said that their promise of one-week free sex boosted the Eagles victory against Ivory Coast.

In a telephone chat with DailyPost, ANP General Secretary, Jessica Elvis while congratulating the Super Eagles for flying over the Ivorians said they have not forgotten their promise.
Her words: “We are really happy for the sweet victory over Drogba and co. Our free sex promise contributed massively to this victory and I must thank my members for this decision.
Speaking further, a visibly elated Elvis said: “Our target is not to get to the semi final or the final, all we want is the cup and with the usual support of ANP, Super Eagles must fly,” she said.

Lagos court sentences 30 beggars to Kirikiri prison for begging alms

Beggars are now being locked up for begging alms in Lagos. Wow! About 30 of them were sentenced to Kirikiri Prison, some Badagry prison by the Special Offences Magistrate Court sitting in Alausa, Ikeja, today Monday February 4th.

The Attorney General of Lagos State said the beggars committed an offence under the criminal law of the State.

Begging alms in the streets of Lagos is illegal and the state environmental agency is doing all they can to get rid of as many beggars as they can. But is sending them to Kirikiri prison the answer?

Oprah Hit With Lawsuit; Sexual Discrimination Alleged at OWN

Oprah Winfrey does not look out for her OWN.
At least not according to a new lawsuit accusing her and the network of sexual discrimination. A female exec claims she got the chop after getting pregnant!
Carolyn Hommel says in her lawsuit, filed Friday, that she was hired in 2010 as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at Oprah's OWN network.
Hommel claims she was told she was on track to become a Vice President with the organization, but says things changed when she became pregnant.
According to Hommel, her duties were slowly transferred to a temporary employee and she was excluded from meetings when she returned from medical leave.
At that point, Carolyn claims she was fired from OWN one month after giving birth and told to re-apply for the V.P. gig ... only to be turned down.
Moreover, Hommel claims her boss, Michael Garner, fabricated a performance review that "made Hommel's job duties and responsibilities appear less 'senior'."
The allegation is that the network retroactively tried to make her appear like a weaker candidate for the new vice president position than she was.
Bottom line, Hommel alleges the aforementioned conduct and her dismissal were a direct result of her becoming pregnant and thus requiring medical leave.
O has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
