Lagos court sentences 30 beggars to Kirikiri prison for begging alms

Beggars are now being locked up for begging alms in Lagos. Wow! About 30 of them were sentenced to Kirikiri Prison, some Badagry prison by the Special Offences Magistrate Court sitting in Alausa, Ikeja, today Monday February 4th.

The Attorney General of Lagos State said the beggars committed an offence under the criminal law of the State.

Begging alms in the streets of Lagos is illegal and the state environmental agency is doing all they can to get rid of as many beggars as they can. But is sending them to Kirikiri prison the answer?

Oprah Hit With Lawsuit; Sexual Discrimination Alleged at OWN

Oprah Winfrey does not look out for her OWN.
At least not according to a new lawsuit accusing her and the network of sexual discrimination. A female exec claims she got the chop after getting pregnant!
Carolyn Hommel says in her lawsuit, filed Friday, that she was hired in 2010 as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at Oprah's OWN network.
Hommel claims she was told she was on track to become a Vice President with the organization, but says things changed when she became pregnant.
According to Hommel, her duties were slowly transferred to a temporary employee and she was excluded from meetings when she returned from medical leave.
At that point, Carolyn claims she was fired from OWN one month after giving birth and told to re-apply for the V.P. gig ... only to be turned down.
Moreover, Hommel claims her boss, Michael Garner, fabricated a performance review that "made Hommel's job duties and responsibilities appear less 'senior'."
The allegation is that the network retroactively tried to make her appear like a weaker candidate for the new vice president position than she was.
Bottom line, Hommel alleges the aforementioned conduct and her dismissal were a direct result of her becoming pregnant and thus requiring medical leave.
O has yet to respond to the lawsuit.

Dr Tunde Soleye confirms his marriage to Nike Oshinowo has ended

After six years of marital bliss, former beauty queen Nike Oshinowo has packed out of her matrimonial home. Dr Tunde Soleye confirmed it in an interview with Encomium magazine. He said:

“We are no longer living together. Nike and I have sent out a joint statement on the issue. It is simple and clean. This is not a scandal. We had three options, the best of which is to tell the world the truth that we now live apart. We have been living apart for a couple of months now. We see occasionally. She calls me when she wants and I speak with her too. There's no fight. I have been to where she lives. We are still friends. We are going through a difficult time and we will come out of it.

I know for sure that Nike Oshinowo moved out of Dr Soleye's Lekki home mid last year and even when they stepped out together at Folorunsho Alakija's thanksgiving party in September 2012, they were already living apart. Nike now lives in VI, while Dr Soleye has moved to Parkview Estate, Ikoyi.

Got this exclusive gist from a very close friend of the actress. Mercy and her husband have named their daughter Purity Okojie. Purity was born on Sunday December 30th 2012. Mercy is due back in Nigeria next month February. Meanwhile, I heard that some movie producers have been sending movie scripts to the actress in the US. A few weeks after Gerard Piqué pranked fans and claimed the singer had welcomed a son into the world, the couple confirmed today that Milan Piqué Mebara was born in Barcelona. He weighed in at 6 lbs, 6 oz. and mother and child are both in excellent condition.

Wrote Shakira on her website:
“The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.”

Sitting in front of my computer, I’m counting the number of times, love has failed me, people have disappointed me and failed my trust for them, how many friends I have lost from meaningless fights and hurtful words, family squabbles and very tough times, the unaccountable times tears have dropped from my eyes in public and many times on my bed alone with my pillow soaked, the one break up that took me almost 3 years to give love a try again and how many times I had thought life would have been if my parents were still together. Yet I am still standing. I am a very strong, resilient, independent and courageous woman. I don’t mean to blow my own horn but it is how I was taught about life and what I learnt to be growing up with my father and brothers as my mum wasn’t around(separated from dad when I was and my only sister always away in boarding school and university. But my greatest pain and weakness has to be my impatience, my kind and open heart which is always mistaken for stupidity and has landed me in trouble on numerous occasions yet I find strength in the fall to stand up again.

Was it the time I caught my boyfriend cheating? My friend and I put up a dramatic scene, drove off and then we had a ghastly accident that almost cost us our lives, yet I still went back to that same man. Or the day my brother called to tell me my father had stroke? I thought the world had ended; all I did was fall on my knees and tell God it is either him or me and months later he’s keeping us both in good health and I find that prayer selfish. Or was it recently my cousin kicked me out of his apartment knowing I had nowhere else in Lagos to go and I thought of moving back to Calabar to start all over again?

Professor orders student to masturbate 3 times to get passing grades “in class”

A professor at Western Nevada College supposedly required his students to masturbate, keep a diary of sex and write a paper detailing their sexual histories in order to receive a passing grade, according to a federal lawsuit obtained by the news media.

Karen Royce, a student enrolled in the class, filed in U.S. District Court Nevada Monday against the teacher, Tom Kubistant, apparently the complaints are that the class work invaded privacy and amounted to sexual harassment.
“I raised my hand and said,” I do not masturbate, “said Royce. “He said I had to masturbate at least three times in order to obtain a degree in the class.”
On the first day of class, Kubistant allegedly told the students that he would “increase their sex drive so high that they will not be able to think of nothing but sex.”
Kubistant then allegedly asked students, some of whom were high school students taking the course for college credit, for a list of different types of sex and sexual positions they already did, according to the news media.
The complaint alleges that the teacher read aloud to the class the lists and then asked students to write three 250 word stories in a journal about their sexual thoughts.
Kubistant also reportedly assigned a term paper of 14 pages that requires students to explore the details of sexual abuse – including rape – the loss of virginity, deceit, fetishes and orgasms, among others, the news media reported.

Photos Of The 40 Bodies Dumped In Anambra River

Residents of Amansea in Awka, Anambra State woke up on Saturday January 19th to a horrifying sight; 40 dead bodies floating in a River in their community. People from the community and some neighbouring ones besieged the Ezu river yesterday to catch a glimpse of the dead bodies. The river is at the boundary between Enugu and Anambra states and the dead bodies were found at the old Enugu-Onitsha road axis of the river.

The corpses whose identities were unknown, were suspected to have been dumped in the river Friday night by unknown persons.

The traditional ruler of Amansea said the community had never witnessed such a gory sight before, while the Commissioner of Police in the state said the dead bodies remained a mystery as there had been no communal clash in Enugu or Anambra where many people were killed. He said investigations are ongoing...

The State Governor Peter Obi has cut short his trip abroad and is expected back today.

Group Condemns Mobbing Of Homosexuals In Imo

 

A group, the Nigeria HIV info, dedicated to the protection of the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS, has condemned the mob beating of three men accused of engaging in homosexuality in Imo State.
In a statement by Steve Aborisade, its coordinator, the group said it has “reliably confirmed and authenticated the incident and of the identity of one of the men.”

The three men were stripped naked and allegedly lynched on Monday, in Ekwe, near Umuka in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State. Mr. Aborisade called on security agents to respond to the plight of the men.

“As it is, only the perpetrators and the community can tell the whole world what has become of these men who were seriously beaten up, stripped naked and paraded around the community bounded together like animals on allegation that they were caught having sex together,” Mr. Aborisade said.
Mr. Aborisade said a reliable source “reliably confirmed that the men were yet to be released from the location where they are being held in Umuka, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.”
The group appealed to the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to intervene to save the lives of the men.
“While acknowledging that several Nigerians find the practice of homosexuality strange and unnatural, we also realize that it does not confer a license to trample on the rights of people who engages in it, with the sort of inhuman treatment that was meted out to these them.
“So many informed commentators, including Nobel Prize winner, Prof Wole Soyinka have commented on the scientifically proven fact that more than anything, gays are just victims of biology,” the group said.
Mr. Aborisade said instead of being singled out for harassment and prosecution, sexual minorities deserve support and access to sexual health services that they lack as citizens of this country.
He said sexual minorities “remain a high risk group to HIV/AIDS infection, yet it is a community that has been denied of all access to life saving HIV/AIDS services.”
“We suggest that our parliamentarians should devote equal energy at fishing out and punishing our treasury thieves who are doing more harm to the continued survival of our nation instead of dissipating energy on an issue that borders on private morality.
“We enjoin other rights group to show solidarity and ensure that the rights of sexual minorities are protected like other marginalised groups in the country,” Mr. Aborisade said

A 500 level student of the federal University of Technology Minna, named Godwin Edeko has been arrested for allegedly cutting off his girlfriend’s head after having carnal knowledge of her for three days.The photo when you continue. After some time without hearing any sound from the girl who had been with the suspect for three days without coming out, they forcefully opened the door of the room only to find the headless body of Hanatu with blood stains all over the room.
