The enclave of Ijora Badia in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State is a constellation of absurdity. It is indeed a melange of miscreants, roughnecks, gangsters, fraudsters and prostitutes. It is an enclave situated along the railway line that runs from Ijora to Iddo. The environment is filthy with euglena infested brackish lagoon, which harbours dangerous reptiles and breeds mosquitoes in millions. From Ijora bus-stop, a macadamized road that links the bus-stop with Ijora Badia railway line community gives a wrong impression of where it leads to.
On both sides of the link road are shops that display different wares ranging from electronic equipment to clothes, shoes, bags, among other articles of trade. But the end of the link road exposes one to the railway line habitat, which bubbles with a plethora of indecent and unspeakable activities. By the swampy side of the railway are clusters of large wooden cabin suspended up to six feet atop the brackish lagoon. There are several of such accommodation housing half-dressed, haggard, dishevelled, fierce-looking women of all sizes, shapes and ages. In fact, one could rightly say the cabins are brothels on the lagoon.
By 12 noon when this reporter visited the enclave, some of the women, especially the older ones appear worn-out with bulging, sleepy, red eyes, an indication that they must have had a busy night, perhaps also, it’s an indication that business is booming. Even as they intermittently shut their eyes and nod their heads involuntarily as they fight against the sleep trying to envelope them, reliable sources swore they were still ‘ready for action if a customer calls’. For the younger women, most of whom appeared tattered and unkempt, they sat in clusters with their navels on display, as well as their breasts shooting out like balloons.

Farouk Lawan claims immunity in Otedola’s N250bn suit
Embattled member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan, on Thursday told an Abuja High Court that he was immune from civil prosecution for any action he took on the floor of the House while serving as the chairman of the ad-hoc committee that probed the management of fuel subsidy in the country.
He said this in a preliminary objection to N250bn suit filed against him by a businessman, Femi Otedola. He asked the court to dismiss the suit on the basis that the action over which he was dragged to court was taking in the course of his duty as chairman of the committee.
Lawan was removed as the chairman of the committee amid accusation by Otedola that he (Lawan) obtained $620,000 bribe from him in order to strike out the name of his company, Zenon Oil, from the list of indicted firms.
The Lawan-led committee had indicted some firms and individuals of shortchanging the subsidy regime to the tune of N1.7trn. It consequently recommended their prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Otedola had alleged intimidation by the House in the wake of his accusation against Lawan and consequently sued the lawmaker; the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal; the Clerk of the National Assembly; and the National Assembly. He is asking the court to make the defendants pay him N250bn as damages for the loss of goodwill as a result of their actions in the course of the probe.
At the resumption of hearing in the case on Thursday,Lawan and Tambuwal argued that the court lacked the jurisdiction to try them.
In a preliminary objection filed by his counsel, Kehinde Ogunwumiju, Lawan asked the court to dismiss the suit on the grounds that “Section 3 of the Legislative Houses Powers and Privileges Act Cap L 12 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” gives him absolute immunity from civil proceedings in respect of what he said on the floor of the House .

Mikel had claimed that referee Mark Clattenburg cast a racial slur at him during the match, but the referee has been cleared by the police.The player has until Friday 30 November 2012 to respond to the charge.

Woman jailed for dumping baby in latrine
A 25-year-old woman, Ms Toyin Akinbobola, has been sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment for dumping her day-old baby inside a pit toilet at her idanre home, Ondo State.
Akinbobola, who was found guilty by a Chief Magistrate in the Idanre Judicial Division, Mrs. Folashade Aduroja, last Friday dumped the baby in the toilet minutes after giving birth to her on October 18.
Our correspondent learnt that a young boy who wanted to use the toilet moments after Akinbobola carried out the criminal act had drawn the attention of other neighbours to the cry of the baby inside the toilet.
Some of residents who rushed to the scene immediately reported the matter at Olofin Police Station.
The baby was said to have been covered with excreta and maggots when she was removed from the stench by policemen drafted to the scene.
The baby, it was learnt, was taken to Idanre General Hospital from where she was referred to the Mother and Child Hospital in Akure for a comprehensive medical treatment.
Although the baby’s life was saved, medical reports indicated that one of her ears and left eye were not functional again.
The baby was taken to the Motherless babies’ home on Akure-Oba-Ile Road where she is currently being attended to on the directives of the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs.
The police could not arrest the mother of the baby and the person who impregnated her immediately because they had both fled the town.
However, Akinbobola was later sighted at Omifun village where her mother had a farm and was arrested by the police.
She was arraigned on a three-count including an attempted murder contrary to Section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Laws of Ondo State, 1978.
Five witnesses testified in the case which lasted a few weeks.
However, there was a melodrama in the court on Friday when the defence counsel pleaded with the magistrate, before delivering her judgment, to temper justice with mercy because Akinbobola was pregnant again.
The magistrate, who was obviously shocked by the piece of information, asked Akinbobola whether the information was true or not.
In her response, Akinbobola confessed that one of her mother’s labourers on the farm was responsible for the pregnancy.
But the magistrate said Akinbobola was guilty and sentenced her to two and a half years imprisonment, adding that her case would serve as a deterrent to others.
The convict will serve her prison term at Olokuta Prisons, Akure
Police apprehend woman-led robbery gang
The robbery gang, it was learnt, specialised in robbing their victims of cars, motorcycles and valuable items.
The operation was carried out by combined teams from Ukanafun Police Division and Rivers State Police Command, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, on Thursday.
Dickson said the three-person robbery gang (made up of two men and a woman) was arrested at a black spot in Okoyo along Ukanafun-Azumini Road.
The police acted on a tip-off and arrested the suspects at the black spot which they used as their operational base.
One of those arrested, Ubong Dickson, an indigene of Okoyo community, served as a linkman to other members of the gang. Ubong is said to have admitted to taking part in crimes.
Dickson stated that the arrest of the bandits was a step forward in the police quest to rid the state of all forms of crimes, especially as the Christmas and New Year periods were approaching.
He warned criminally-minded persons that there was no hiding place for them in the state, and assured the residents that the police were ready to ensure security of lives and property.
He stated that the suspects were still undergoing interrogation and would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.

Hector Camacho to Be Taken Off Life Support
The Puerto Rican native, who compiled a lifetime record of 79-6-3, was the passenger in a car when another vehicle pulled up aside him and a friend, firing shots that killed the driver in Camacho's car and fatally wounding the athlete.He was hit in the neck and face and suffered a cardiac arrest soon after the incident, which many believe was drug-related after bags of cocaine were found in the victims' vehicle, according to TMZ sources.
Camacho was declared brain dead on Wednesday afternoon and funeral services will reportedly be held in either Puerto Rico or New York.
Over the years, Camacho fought such legends as Julio Cesar Chavez, Sugar Ray Leonard and Oscar De La Hoya.
He latter struggled with substance abuse issues and also faced domestic violence charges in 2011. He was shot that same year near housing projects in San Juan.

Nigeria, Most Fraudulent Country in Africa – KPMG
A global audit and financial advisory firm, KPMG, has rated Nigeria as the most fraudulent country in Africa.
The rating is coming on the heels of President Goodluck Jonathan’s claim that his administration has done better than previous ones in the fight against corruption.
According to KPMG, Nigeria accounted for the highest number of fraud cases on the continent in the first half of 2012.
The cost of fraud in the country during the period was put at N225 billion ($1.5 billion).
KPMG, in its second Africa Fraud Barometer result, released on Wednesday, also said Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa accounted for 74 per cent of all fraud cases in Africa in the same period.
The report stated that the number of fraud cases in Nigeria has been worsened by fraud and corruption in the oil sector.

Jackie Chan is set to throw his final karate chop on screen: The long-time action star has announced his retirement, effective at the end of his next movie."I'm the director, I'm the writer, I'm the producer, I'm the action director, almost everything... This really, really is my baby."

Former Delta State House Of Assembly Speaker Slump and Dies In Hospital Toilet
Former Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Daniel Igbrude, allegedly slumped and died in a hospital yesterday afternoon. Igbrude, who became the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly June 3, 2003, was reported to have taken his child to St Luke’s Hospital in Asaba and while the treatment of the child was going on, he demanded to use the toilet and reportedly slumped and died there.
A close source who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the death, saying: “This is a great blow. We are all devastated by this (death). He was hale and hearty when he went to the hospital.” He was said to have died at about 2pm. Igbrude, who was a staunch member of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had decamped to DPP due to party differences, but in March last year staged a come back to PDP, with some of his followers.

Suspected ritualists behead 16-yr-old girl in Anambra
A 16 year-old Miss Nwanneka Odah was, yesterday, beheaded by a
three -man gang suspected to be ritual killers at Nawfia in Njikoka
Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Nwanneka was said to be hawking groundnuts along the Nawfia –Awka
road close to Nawfia Comprehensive Secondary School when the three
young men allegedly pretended as if they wanted to buy groundnuts from
her only for one of them to use a machete to cut off her head when she
bent down to sell the groundnuts to them.
A relation of the deceased, Mr. Friday Ogalagu described the situation as terrible, lamenting that he had never seen such a thing in his life.
He said: “I was not there when it happened, but I was told that my cousin was stopped by three men who said they wanted to buy groundnuts. While two of them were on the road side, the third, who dressed like a mad man was standing closely.
When the girl bent down to put the ground nuts for them, the one close by brought out what somebody said looked like an axe and beheaded the girl. An Okada rider plying the road who saw what happened stopped and the three men ran into the bush, leaving their victim whose head was already severed, struggling for life.”
Ogalagu said that it was when people began to make inquiries about the parents of the girl that he was contacted.
According to Ogalagu who claimed to be training the girl since childhood, the body had been deposited at the Amaku General Hospital in Awka, while the parents who live in Ebonyi had been contacted.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Raphael Uzoigwe, confirmed the incident, saying the matter had been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, for investigation.

Police arrest ‘700-year-old spirit’ for fraud
Police in Kano State have arrested one Nura Hamza, who claimed to be a 700-year-old spirit.
Hamza was arrested after he allegedly duped a man of N800,000.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr
Ibrahim Idris, told reporters on Wednesday in Kano that the suspect, who
resides at Kurnar Asabe quarters, was arrested on August 23, following
complaint from one of his victims.
According to him, the suspect used his
mobile phone to call the complainant several times claiming to be a
spirit aged 700 years.
He said, “He (the suspect) directed the complainant to source money and take it to a nearby bush for spiritual duties.
“When his compound was searched, the
following exhibits recovered. Seven pieces of fake $100, three bundles
of cut-to-size papers with pretext to be $100, four MTN SIM
certificates, three motorcycles, generator and one mobile phone.”
Idris said after the complainant had deposited N800,000 as directed by the suspect, he decided to inform his relatives.
The CP said, “This culminated in the arrest of the suspect after luring him to the destination.”
The commissioner also said the command
had arrested 150 suspected criminals and smashed five robbery gangs
within the last two weeks.

Why I Resigned as Minister of Power - Bart Nnaji Speaks
The president was said to have decided to accept the resignation, following Nnaji’s admission that companies linked to him had submitted bids for one of the successor companies created from the unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
However, speaking to THISDAY Tuesday night on his decision to leave the cabinet, Nnaji said he opted to resign in order to save the privatisation and reform programme from those who might want to use ulterior motives to bring down the programme.
Nnaji said he had met with the president Tuesday afternoon, during which he (president) informed him (Nnaji) that he was using his company as a proxy to buy shares on behalf of the president in Afam power station through the privatisation process.
On hearing this, he informed the president that rather than drag him (Jonathan) and the entire process through the mud, he would prefer to resign but reminded the president that he had brought it to his attention two weeks ago that a company he owned was part of a bidding consortium that had submitted bids for Enugu Distribution Company.

Maine Woman Gives Birth to Own Grandson
The arrangement sounds a little strange, but Hebert, 25, has a heart condition that made it too dangerous for her to get pregnant. Her cardiologist said it would be risky for both her and her baby. "It was pretty disappointing," she says. She and her husband are high school sweethearts who started dating eleven years ago.
Previously mom had told Hebert she was willing to carry a baby for her. Now it was time to see if she really meant it. "I called her last summer," Hebert told the Herald Press. "And I'm like, 'So, you know that offer...Is that offer still on the table?'"
Sirois reached out to fertility clinics around New England. Many rejected her because of her age, but the Reproductive Science Center in Lexington, Massachusetts agreed to impregnate her by in-vitro fertilization (IVF) using Hebert's egg fertilized with Brian's sperm. She had to undergo a number of tests and the process was complicated, but on December 13, Sirois learned she was pregnant. The mom of four says it was her easiest pregnancy. "I felt good and had no complications."
"She is amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better mother. It's such a great and selfless gift she has given us," Hebert told the newsletter of the Aroostock Medical Center where Madden was born. "She brought her grandson into the world and we now have our beautiful baby boy. We are all super excited."
Sirois says it was the natural thing for any mother to do for her daughter. "I was just 'babysitting' for a short time… I was fortunate and blessed to be a part of this experience and be able to help bring him into the world." She will have plenty more babysitting ahead: in June, her oldest daughter, Kristin Duval, 26, gave birth to Sirois's first grandson, Everett. Babies and moms are all doing fine.

has had two operations before now when she discovered she had lumps in her
breast before she was diagnosed with Cancer. The
surgery is for complete removal of her breasts and she must do this before the
second week in September.

Aspiration for cytology @ Me cure healthcare limited Oshodi... So my fine needle
aspiration for cytology said my breast mass n lymp nodes are negative for
MALIGNANT cells.. I had my first surgery 13th june 2011 and my 2nd surgery 16th
Novem 2011 then I took my lump for Histopathology investigation on 24th November
and the investigation reported I have INVASIVE DUCTAL CARCINOMAL on 5th Dec

53 Year Old Man who Constantly Drug & Rape His Daughter

Donatus is
currently facing a two-count charge at the Ojo Magistrate court, Lagos, for
having canal knowledge of his daughter, Oluchi
Nzewi, 18,
without her consent which is an offense under section 258 of the criminal laws
of Lagos state .
He
is also being charged for threatening to kill one Ngozi Emeka, for reporting him
to the police which is punishable under section 56 of the criminal laws of Lagos
state Nigeria. Donatus
was reported to the police by Ngozi Emeka who is a friend to the deceased wife
of Donatus after he, (Donatus) chased his daughter out of the house because she
accused him of having sex with her.
According to Oluchi,
who appeared before the court “My
father has been having sex with me whenever I am asleep and there is this drink
he always forced me to drink before I sleep and when I wake up, I do noticed
sperm all over my body. When I asked him, he will deny it and warn me never to
ask him such question”.
On the 15th day of August when I woke up, I

Usher's ex-wife Tameka Raymond suffers fresh heartache after losing the custody battle over their two sons. ‘As a director and founding
shareholder of storm 360 Ltd, my attention has been drawn to certain
unfounded statements in the media about my alleged removal as director
of the company
There is therefore need to clear the air and put right the mis-stated facts leading to the said publication.
Sometime
in 2011 my attention as a director of the company was drawn to certain
huge and unauthorized withdrawals running on the company’s Naira and
Dollar accounts. Not having been supplied any explanation and having
noted the fact that the debits were to the benefit of unauthorized
persons, the matter was reported to d police for investigation.
All efforts to get the other
members of the board to assist in the investigations proved futile and
while the investigations were on-going, a meeting of the company was
hastily called in which no notice was served on me and in which the
deliberations was conducted in the most clandestine manner.
For failing to comply with
legal requirements for such meeting, my solicitors have commenced the
necessary legal process to contest the glaringly invalid removal and
set same aside.
The investigations into the
fraudulent misappropriation of the company’s funds are still on and
upon conclusion will reveal all the perpetrators of the fraud against
the company which I and the other well-meaning members of the company
have striven to build.
The public is advised to ignore such unabashed campaign of
calumny as both criminal investigations and judicial proceedings are
on-going which will eventually set the records straight. For the
avoidance if doubt, I still remain a member of the board of the company
and any claims to the contrary are completely false – -Olisa Adibua
